Music event: On Sunday September 8, I went to the release party of The Highmarts' 7" single "anata ga hoshii no (I Want You Bad)" which was produced by Sally Kubota (SOLEIL, The Phantom Gift). The event also featured bands Salome no kuchibiru (aka Salome Lips) and The Psyclones (from Kyoto), and also three special guests from legendary neo-GS band The Phantom Gift: bassist Sally Kubota, Napoleon Yamagishi and drummer Charlie Morita!
Salome no kuchibiru, The Psyclones and The Highmarts... all bands were excellent! The most awesome though was that towards the end of The Highmarts' set, they were joined by Sally and Napoleon for "Why Baby Why" (cover of 60's GS band The Beavers) followed by The Phantom Gift's "Heart ni OK!" (which was covered on The Highmarts' new single). With that the show ended once, but they announced there would be a special show afterward, and the three from The Phantom Gift appeared on stage and played "ii ko da ne" (cover of 60's band Jacks), after which they were joined by The Highmarts for "hanashitakunai" (The Phantom Gift original).
This show was also the last of The Highmarts' bassist Shiori aka Shira-chan, who was given a cake at the end. Oh, and the event's guest DJs Jimmy Mashiko and Ikumante no yoru were great too!

Music event: I dropped by event "xxFANCYPOOLxx TIME" at Ebisu Batica, it was singer/model Manon's first self-organized party, and featured several other artists and DJs. I got to watch shows by electro singer/trackmaker Utae (Soundcloud) whose breakbeats and singing I enjoyed a lot, and also rapper dodo. I saw some DJ sets too, and I especially enjoyed Tomggg!
The event's last performer was host Manon, who did a very cool and generous set of 10 songs, backed by her producer Yuppa (HNC) who played some live keyboards and samples. The setlist consisted of the whole album "Teenage Diary" (!), plus latest track "Air Kissing" (watch the video below) which she sang live for the first time.
Set list: Swipe / xxFANCYPOOLxx / Wavy Pineapple Days / Beat the Bad Luck / Somewhere / Gomenne Girl / 2 Live In A Real World / Popcorn Crisis / Air Kissing / Coco Boi Romance
A word about Manon: Based in Fukuoka, she's a model and artist of the Asobisystem agency (which is famous for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu), and she has said in interviews that Kyary is her role model as an artist. Manon's music producer is Yuppa aka HNC, who I've been a big fan of since her early days as Hazel Nuts Chocolate. What adds a magic touch to the whole is that back around when Kyary debuted in 2011, she said that her favorite music was HNC! With Yuppa's always fresh tracks, Manon and Yuppa keep feeling to me like a dream team, and I'm always looking forward to what might come next.
Exhibition: Caught the "Zine Wall" exhibition at Amala Gallery in Kichijōji, by Switzerland zine publisher Nieves. It was the last day!
