Weekly revue: 2019 week #7 (February 9 to 15)
Tokyo sights: Architecture by Von Jour Caux (the "Japanese Gaudi") in Daitabashi
Food: - Oden and salmon curry at Shake Stand, Daitabashi
- Horse meat at Ōhashi-shōten no tonari shokudō ("Uma"), Daitabashi
- Breakfast at itoma morning and night, Kōenji
- Cupcake at Kies, Nishi-Ogikubo
Music events: - On Saturday February 9 was a daytime event of ammakasie noka (Mayutan) & shiroi Ribbon, held in a traditional Japanese house in Nishi-Ogikubo built 86 years ago. The concert was a mix of violin playing, singing, storytelling, and record listening, with on stage many beautiful old-fashioned toys who took turns in the spotlight. Each toy kind of seemed to have its own personality.
I bought ammakasie noka's brand new album "Little Ghost House" which is a quiet and soothing adventure in the woods, made mainly just of field recordings and voices.
Movie: - Saw the Indian movie "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" at Uplink in Kichijoji. It's about a Pakistanese child who cannot speak and is lost in India alone after a train misadventure, to be rescued by an Indian stranger.
Music release news: Childish Tones feat. Usakura Beni, "Tokyo Neo 90s Groove mixed by DJ Hasebe", International Playboys, Chikada Haruo, Her Serves & Receive

Weekly revue: 2019 week #5 (January 26 to February 1)
Food: - South Indian curry at Curry Leaves, Jūjō
- Flat white at mobile coffee truck Ginzan Coffee, in Ikejiri-Ōhashi/Mishuku on weekends
Music event: - On January 31 was event "Dita" at Roppongi Varit, featuring Hoshino Michiru, HALLCA (aka Tominaga Haruka) and Mebi Moe.
It was my first time seeing HALLCA since she started her solo career. The last time I had seen her was with Especia (as a trio) at the same place in November 2016 (report). This time HALLCA was backed by "DJ chante", and she played live keys on her Juno keyboard while singing. She played her whole "Aperitif e.p" plus new song "Wanna Dance!" which was announced at the show and released digitally shortly after at midnight! All of HALLCA's songs so far are great, and I'm really looking forward to what's to come next!
HALLCA set list: Milky Way / Diamond / Dreamer / guilty pleasure / Wanna Dance!
Hoshino Michiru performed a full set at the piano. I love her solo piano version of "Discotheque ni tsuretette", normally an upbeat dance track but that takes a cool jazzy twist when played in this fashion. I was also happy to hear "Misty Night, Misty Morning", another of my piano favorites, and "ikitai hō e" (both from album "You Love Me"). For the encore, she played brand new song "gyakkō" which is to be released as an EP of the same title on March 6! It's produced by Sally Kubota with photography & artwork by Shindō Mitsuo! Can't wait! Meanwhile if you want to hear her live sound you should check out latest digital EP "After 6 Sessions".
Hoshino Michiru set list: Wish on a Starry Night / Discotheque ni tsuretette / mō ichido déjà-vu / story / Misty Night, Misty Morning / ikitai hō e
Encore: gyakkō
