Outing: After having been curious about it for a long time, I finally had the chance to go to Sanrio Puroland! The indoor theme park has many attractions featuring Sanrio's world famous characters (Hello Kitty, My Melody & Kuromi, Little Twin Stars, Gudetama, etc.). Best of all was the wonderful "Miracle Gift Parade" that features many of the characters in a special show that was art directed by Masuda Sebastian (of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Kawaii Monster Cafe fame). Other fun attractions included the "Sanrio Character Boat Ride", in which you ride a boat on the way to a party at Hello Kitty's house meeting all of Sanrio's other characters along the way, "Gudetama The Movie" in which lazy director Gudetama involves the audience into making his new movie, and also "Kiki & Lala's Twinkling Tour", etc. That was a very fun day!
Music event: I went to an event held by chorus group Smooth Ace at Mame Romantic in Daikanyama, art of a monthly series titled "Open The Doors" which features different guest artists. This month their guests were Hoshino Michiru and Count Joke (aka jōdan hakushaku), and the event was to feature collaborations between all of them.
The first part of the show was by two of Count Joke (Maezono Naoki and Arai Toshiya) and Michiru. Count Joke started the show with three of their original songs. Highlights included Michiru's "With on a Starry Night" which she played on piano accompanied by Smooth Ace's chorus, and then Count Joke's "Pink Shadow" (Bread & Butter cover) also with Smooth Ace. That was followed by a brand new song by Michiru with Count Joke, "ai no Special". It was great! I hope that will be released sometime soon.
The next part of the show featured mainly Smooth Ace. By the way Smooth Ace consists of two main members, and on stage they're accompanied by Lemon and another singer. Smooth Ace explained how they got to know Lemon and Maezono Naoki thanks to Konishi Yasuharu's compilation "uta to Guitar, Piano, kotoba." (2008). Both Lemon and Smooth Ace sang their songs from this compilation, respectively "utahime" and "dōshite konna ni anata ga suki nano darō". It was so great to hear these live again (the last time was at a Maezono Naoki show in 2009)! They also did a brand new song featuring Michiru, "sayonara Blue Bird"! The encore was Count Joke's "itsuka dokokade" with everyone on stage.
Smooth Ace's next event on March 27 will feature guest Kaji Hideki!
Hoshino Michiru & Count Joke set list: Bird man (Count Joke) / 2kyū tenshi no Theme (Count Joke) / LED (Count Joke) / Unstable Girl (Michiru) / Wish on a Starry Night (Michiru w/ Smooth Ace) / Pink Shadow (Count Joke w/ Smooth Ace) / ai no Special (Michiru & Count Joke) / yurei no Ballad (Count Joke w/ Michiru)
Smooth Ace set list: suteki na Music / Two days, one night / kimi o shitteiru / wasureteita asa (w/ Maezono Naoki) / utahime (Lemon w/ Smooth Ace) / dōshite konnani anata ga suki nandarō. (w/ Michiru) / sayonara Blue Bird (Smooth Ace & Michiru) / dandan / riyū naki Harmony
