New camera!
1024x576 - 1920x1080 (original)
This is my first shot with my new digital camera, Panasonic's DMC-LX1 which does native 16:9 pictures. The CCD being of a true 16:9 ratio means that it takes 33% wider than a standard 4:3 camera. Of course it can also take pictures at 4:3, which means that the sides are cut, and also 3:2 which is the standard ratio of analog cameras. Other features include fully manual controls (I'll need a bit of practice to make good use of these) and also a bunch of useful presets for all kinds of situations. Oh, and it also does video in 16:9!
I'm looking forward to take advantage of that extra 33% width for this year's sakura pictures, and also an upcoming Taiwan trip under planning!

Good purchase Patrick. That was the camera I almost bought as well. I like the true 16:9 ratio as well. But I decided on the GR instead.

What the heck is happening in Shinjuku?!! I gotta go out there more often to check it out.

Thanks for approving my choice!
You must not have been to Shinjuku's south exit for quite a while, it's been like that for a year or two. :)

that is awsome that 16:9 is being adopted by digi photocams as well. I want my next one to have that and also focus on 16:9 video. Funny enough, it seems that the LCD viewing screen on your cam is still good old 4:3
Also video sharing sites like youtube.com do not seem to support ARs other than 4:3

Yes, the 4:3 screen did surprise me about that camera, though it does looks good that way with a 16:9 image on the screen, since the settings at top and bottom are partially out of the image.

Such a nice camera. It is same spec. as the Lecia LUX 2. BTW, I just bought a Contax TVS digital camera. It make a very beautiful picture colours. Due to it is year 2002 product, the speed is little bit slow. So I want to buy the LX1 for dialy snap. I am living in Hong Kong. The price of the LX1 is around HK$3200 only. When it down to $2xxx, I will buy it immediately :)

It seems like the Leica D-LUX 2 is a rebranded version of the Panasonic DMC-LX1. The design and specs seem to be exactly the same.

Nice choice! Great photo [naturally]! I don't know if you noticed - I was using the Panasonic DMC FZ25 while I was in Tokyo and I really love the sharpness of that huge Leica lens. They have a great set of features and are so easy to use it's amazing. Recently I upgraded to the FZ30 for an extra 90 pounds to get 8.1mps instead of the 5.1 of the FZ25.
I was never much into digital cameras before but there's no going back now!
