Blog - Maximum Joy closing!
Maximum Joy closing!
Maximum Joy, a Shibuya record shop that had an important name in the Shibuya-kei scene, will be closing on July 4th!
Until then everything is 50% off.
There will be a closing party featuring Cornelius, Kahimi Karie with Kanda Tomoki, Kaji Hideki, Naka Masashi, and more. It's already sold out though so I can't go.
I'll try to make it one last time before the end.
Update 2004/7/3 14:12
I went to check it out last night and there was still a lot of good stuff.
I got the limited edition Cornelius book "Cornelius no wakusei kengaku" (Amazon), some Readymade International vinyls I was missing, and a Blast Off Country Style (Teenbeat) 10".

Yeah I liked that shop too! Not only for Shibuya-kei but it was also my favorite place where to buy Teenbeat stuff.
Indeed the location wasn't best I guess.
Cool that you got a free Yoshie 7"! What is it? The Tone Twilight release?

yeah it was the tone twilight yoshie 7". cause we were of coarse talking about citrus. now that i look back. he probly knew then. that they were going to close. i had given him a MMM/MDDE 7", so maybe he gave me that in return. though that was never specified. anywhos. bought a couple 7"s.. some other TT stuff. some galaxy train.. anywhos. its to bad. there were so many "hip hop" record stores.. its was sorta crazy impossing.

Yeah I agree that all the hip hop shops around there are a bit scary. Is that all what's ahead?
Last time I went to that part of Udagawa-chō, the shop where I used to find most of the cool vinyl had been replaced by a hip hop clothing shop...
